Coop Day!!

I started the coop buying club, Concepts In Health, in 2001 for the purpose of purchasing good wholesome food in bulk for my family and a few friends and neighbors. Almost eleven years later, I am still acting as coordinator of the club and sharing purchases with old as well as new friends. 

As you can tell from the annoying "auto-date," this picture was taken quite a while ago. Audrey will never remember not having "Coop Day."

Current membership varies from between 20-30 families with about half the membership placing orders in any given month.

 Fitness and nutrition have been interests of mine for as long as I can remember, and I have come to love and appreciate the whole experience of shopping through a buying club.

“Coop Day” is, in fact, one of my favorite days each month.  The whole family gets involved with the delivery, order break-down, and member pick-up.

Lee has already left with the perishables. I hang around to pay and then bring home the groceries/bulk. Lee shakes his head at this picture--keeps mumbling about the "suspension."

It gives me a good feeling as I watch our member families take home their healthy groceries.  I know that, without the buying club, many of us would have very few, if any, other options to obtain some of the products we are able to purchase each month through the coop.

It does take a while to make the coop way of shopping a habit, but once you do, it’s almost impossible to remember how you did it any other way. I for one don’t miss the every-other-day trips to the grocers—much less how frustrated I was once I got there and started reading labels.  How wonderful to have the choices I have now.
